Mehregan 2010 - Persian Festival of Autumn

We attended this festival to increase awareness for gambling related disorders in the community and the available treatments.  Dr. Iman Parhami also conducted a study to examine this population.  The primary objective of this study was to examine gambling behaviors (types and frequencies) in the Iranian-American population and learn their motivations to gamble.  The secondary objective of this study is to provide preliminary data characterizing the number of Iranian-Americans that have gambling related disorders.  These objectives will be met by distributing the following questionnaire, UCLA Gambling Activity and Motivation Survey for Iranian-Americans (LINK), adapted from previous studies, to members of the Iranian-American Community at this event and other various community events.  Results from this study will help providers create culturally geared treatment and help determine if Iranian-Americans are more experience gambling related disorders.  Finally, findings from this study may be generalized to other cultures  descended from the Middle East region rarely studied (e.g. Arabs, Armenians, etc.)
