Gambling Studies Program

Treatment Provider Network

Outpatient Provider Network

Licensed therapists with specialized training in the treatment of problem gamblers and their families use specific diagnostic tools to determine the extent and severity of the problem. They create a therapeutic relationship to help each client succeed using proven strategies that motivate the client to change, identify distortions and feelings about gambling, identify gambling triggers, and prevent relapsing into destructive behaviors. The specific types of treatment provided to problem and pathological gamblers will be a combination of state-provided treatment materials, knowledge and skills acquired from the trainings, and techniques from the therapist’s own orientation and clinical experience.

To locate therapists who are independently licensed by the state of California to provide free confidential problem gambling treatment in a telehealth or private practice setting please either call 1-800-GAMBLER or locate a treatment provider through our Treatment Provider Search Tool

Intensive Outpatient Program

This treatment component of the CalGETS will deliver intensive outpatient services (IOP) to pathological gamblers and their family members. IOP programs will offer at least three days per week of integrated treatment for pathological gamblers and their families. The purpose of IOP programs is to serve as a bridge for patients transitioning from residential treatment to outpatient care and also for patients who require more clinical care than what is offered by standard outpatient treatment. IOP for pathological gamblers will be operated within an existing and licensed substance abuse treatment program with experience in treating pathological gamblers.

CalGETS operates IOP programs at Beit T’Shuvah, a residential treatment facility located in Venice, CA, and at the Union of Pan Asian Communities (UPAC), a no-cost group and one-on-one gambling counseling service located in San Diego, CA.
